Today, I almost skipped over to my ceramics studio, I was so excited to see what would come out of the kiln. Unfortunately, everything I pulled out, I found to be disappointing. Today therefore became a lesson in what not to do when glazing pottery.
Lesson 1:
If you are glazing the entire surface of a bowl, and want to get a uniform coat/colour, do not use the half and half dipping technique, for you will be left with a dark stripe down the center of your piece.
Lesson 2:
If you choose to spend many hours decorating your green ware, glaze it using something tried, tested, and true. Experiment on pieces that are not so difficult to reproduce.
Lesson 3:
Some dipping glazes, like this Korean Celadon, require 2 or more coats, to achieve the correct colour and seal the bisque ware.
The three mishaps, set out for all to see.
On a brighter note, here's new bisque ware for me to perform further glazing experiments on!
